お手ごろな反戦運動

いや、何も馬鹿にして言っているのではない。今回のアメリカ対イラク攻撃は、今までのようなイデオロギー的理論構成が、確実に用意はされているのだが、極めて貧弱であるがために、自らの立場を顧慮することなく、その戦争に反対することが可能となっている。どちらが「悪い」かという二択に悩む必要はない。（「」←この枠組に乗せられるとしたら、）どちらもだ。では、どちらもこの世界から存在的に消えてしまえと思うだろうか？そう思わないならば、それだけで、この戦争に反対する気風は整っているだろう。
恐ろしくも、それだけの戦争なのである。
しかし、一方で「国益」に適うとの理由でアメリカの攻撃を支持する人もいる。しかし、国益の具体的内容について明確に語るものはいない。いや、いたとしてもいいのである。
そもそも、今回この言葉を使うことが許される国はおそらくアメリカ・イギリスくらいではないだろうか？いやな「国益」だなと思いつつも。
では、日本はどうか？
誰かと誰かがけんかしているときに、あいつが負けるのは、俺にとって都合が好い。あるいは、あいつに応援をしておいたほうが後々都合が好い。その「都合の好さ」が、「国益」である。
僕はそんなやつを信用しない。僕がけんかしていたとしても、そんなやつに応援されたら、けんかの相手よりも、軽蔑することだろう。

日本国憲法前文
…平和を維持し、専制と隷従、圧迫と偏狭を地上から永遠に除去しようと努めてゐる国際社会において、名誉ある地位を占めたいと思ふ。
「平和を維持し、専制と隷従、圧迫と偏狭を地上から永遠に除去しようと努めてゐる」は、日本が「名誉ある地位を占めたいと思」う「国際社会」（複数形）の種類を特定する文言ではない。
日本が、国連が機能不全に陥っていると判断したことにより、安保理決議なしの武力行使を容認する根拠とはならない。
つまり、国連がかくかくしかじかだから、それは日本の考える国際社会ではないとは、つながらないのである。

Sweet Tea May Be the Law in Georgia

ATLANTA
For some Georgia lawmakers, a meal wouldn't be complete without sweet tea. Now they could put that into law.
Rep. John Noel, D-Atlanta, and four co-sponsors filed a bill Tuesday that would make it a misdemeanor "of a high and aggravated nature" not to offer sweet tea in any Georgia restaurant that serves iced tea.
Noel acknowledged the bill was an attempt to bring a little humor to the Legislature. But he said he wouldn't mind if it became law.
Under the bill, restaurants could still serve unsweetened tea, but must serve sweet tea as well. The proposed bill specifies the tea must be sweetened when it is brewed.
Misdemeanors can carry a sentence of up to 12 months in jail.
Noel got the idea when he wasn't able to order sweet tea at a restaurant in Chicago. It wasn't on the menu.

　エルバラダイ事務局長は、イラクとニジェールとの間でウラン取引が行われたことの裏付けとされる文書について、「詳しく分析した結果、信頼のおけるものではない」とし、米国の主張には根拠がない、と結論付けたことを明らかにした。

Government members threaten to quit over Iraq ---from Reuter

LONDON (Reuters) - Five members of the government have said they will resign if Prime Minister Tony Blair goes to war against Iraq without a second United Nations resolution.
The Sunday Telegraph said five parliamentary private secretaries -- the first rung on the government ladder -- would be ready to step down. Three of them were aides to cabinet ministers and all were members of parliament.
